Message from our Superintendent

 Welcome to the holiday season! What a wonderful time of year this is. As we all appreciate the chill in the air that we rarely get to experience out here in the desert, we turn our thoughts to friends and family during this festive season. We’ve gone through the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving, the beginning of holiday shopping, traffic, and of course, all of those extra calories that come with special food this time of year. As you are driving in this holiday traffic, I ask that you pay special attention to some of the billboards along the freeway. You might notice a familiar logo and message from a community partner that has been a part of the Southwest Valley since the 1920’s. You guessed it. That would be the Tolleson Union High School District! We are using this medium to let everyone know about the great things that are happening at TUHSD. Our focus is all about student achievement; whether we are preparing our students for college and career opportunities, or teaching with the latest technology, we take our responsibility seriously when it comes to educating your students.

At the Tolleson Union High School District, we continue to Do It With Pride! Some recent examples of that include: Sierra Linda High School’s first Division I athlete, Jenay Bojorquez. Not only is Jenay a great basketball player, she is also an excellent academic student. Jenay has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at San Diego State University. There’s also Shannon Moudy from Westview High School who recently attended the National Cluster conference in Orlando, Florida. Shannon is a junior and is the State Officer for all of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) as well as the vice president of program development. She competed in a Toys that Teach competition and placed third in the event and received an award.

I am very proud to work in a community that supports its neighbors. There is no finer example of that ideal than the Tolleson Service Committee’s 34th Annual Charles A. Landis Thanksgiving Day Dinner, which was held on Thanksgiving day. So many of our local residents, parents, and young children came out to enjoy a meal where most, if not all, of the food was donated. Many of our students and staff selflessly gave up part of their holiday to come out and serve their community at this wonderful event. It was a great way for us to kick off the holiday season.

Finally, on behalf of the staff and governing board of the Tolleson Union High School District, I want to wish you all Season’s Greetings and a safe and Happy New Year. Don’t forget that schools will be closed for Winter Break December 26 through January 6. Classes will resume on Monday, January 9. We’ll see you then!
