Program Overview

As a district, we are committed to providing a world class education. In pursuit of this goal, Tolleson Union High School District, in collaboration with our business partners, instituted University High School. Established in 2006, University High School is committed to creating a unique learning environment which prepares students for the academic challenges of university life.

We welcome students of demonstrated motivation and ability to engage in a rigorous education that fosters responsibility and the spirited pursuit of knowledge. We are a school where all shareholders believe in the promise of every student and, together, we work to build and sustain a community of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and talents. Deliberate actions and systems are designed to challenge each individual to live a life of integrity, inquiry, and purpose by focusing aptitude and attitude toward their current and future academic goals.

We are founded upon research and best practices for the purpose of serving students with demonstrated desire and academic ability. Students who are admitted to University High are committed to pursuing their college degree through a rigorous and engaging high school experience. The admission process for University High begins each year in January and will continue until enrollment equals capacity for the upcoming year. The admission process is competitive. Under normal circumstances, students are invited to enroll based upon designated criteria including: student performance on an admission test, AIMS scores, and grade point average from core subjects. Limited capacity enables us to serve students who are academically focused by providing rigorous courses and student support comparable to the best private college preparatory schools in Arizona.

In pursuit of their dreams for a bright future, University High School students are active participants in their education. They demonstrate academic achievement and excellence through engagement in college-level coursework. These focused students consistently achieve high scores on standardized and advanced placement tests, participate in diverse extracurricular activities, strive for admission to prestigious colleges, and naturally will win respected scholarships and awards for their efforts.

A highly-qualified and dedicated faculty guide students toward the goal of life-long learning and responsible citizenship. The curriculum at University High School challenges students through college-level courses in a variety of disciplines which helps them realize their intellectual potential and apply their skills in real world situations. The educational program provides opportunities for creative expression, the development of technological skills, and preparation for careers in the global economy of the 21st century.
