Open Enrollment FAQs
What Is Open Enrollment?
Open Enrollment, a program enacted by the Arizona Legislature, requires all school districts to allow students the opportunity to select a school of their choice. Tolleson Union High School District complies fully with all provisions of the statute.
Will There Be Room For More Students At All The Schools?
Using current enrollment, the district has established each school’s student enrollment, projected growth, and available space. Some schools do not have extra seats because of high resident enrollment and growth projections. Information is available at each school site.
What Is The Application Procedure?
Applications may be obtained from any school in the district beginning January of each year. The application must be completed and returned to the school you would like your child to attend by March 1 of each year. All applications will be accepted for consideration by the schools. All students must register at their home school, even if an application to another school has been submitted.
Students who are currently on open enrollment status must complete and submit an application form for each school year.
Which Students Are Accepted?
Generally, those students who have attended a district school other than their home school are given first priority to stay. The second group is students who reside outside the district boundaries. Consideration is given to requests based on campus enrollment and specific programs. Lottery systems are used if any group is larger than the number of available seats.
What Is The Notification Process?
Written notification not later than May 1 of each year will be provided to all applicants who submitted completed application forms to the school requested.
