Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

Section 504 protects all students with disabilities, defined as those having any physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities (including learning). It allows for reasonable accommodations to assist the student in accessing educational opportunities.

504 plans are coordinated by the student’s guidance counselor at their individual school. If a parent believes that their child has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity they should contact the guidance counselor for assistance in the consideration and development of a 504 Plan.
