What does the Career and Technical Education department hope to achieve?

Career and Technical Education(CTE) prepares students for a wide range of careers. These careers require varying ranges of education - from high school and post-secondary certificates to two and four year college degrees. CTE classes develop the skills most sought after by employers. These skills include:

  • Strong academic and critical thinking skills
  • Strong technical skills in the field they choose to work in
  • Employability skills of teamwork, communication, and effective work habits

The CTE department at Copper Canyon High School covers a variety of challenging fields which are constantly evolving due to the changing global economy. Some of the career areas that students may enter through the CTE department are:

  • Culinary Arts: apprentice chef, pastry chef, prep cook, executive chef, food & beverage manager
  • Family and Consumer Sciences: early childhood teacher, preschool directors
  • Information Technology: systems manager, computer programmer, hardware/software support, web page design
  • Marketing: entrepreneurs, advertising, public relations
  • Sports Medicine: fitness trainers, athletic trainers, physicians
  • Trade and Industry: draftsman, production managers, engineers, architects
